I started my school years at
nursery school in, well I can't remember the name, but it was in Latham, NY. After that I
attended Latham Ridge Elementary School, but only for a short time because my
family moved and I changed schools in first grade. When we moved I ended up going to
Rosendale Elementary School in Niskayuna, NY. I had some great teachers who all really
affected my life in many positive ways.
For six to eigth grade, I entered Iroquois Middle
School and had the misfortune of being the first class to be split into two middle
schools. So, during eigth grade many of my friends were in the other middle school.
Other than that, my teachers in middle school were just as great as elementary school. My
seventh grade english teacher did wonders for me by getting me starting on writing. I
started writing stories and poems, which then led to writing for newspapers. If I didn't
have so many great teachers, I would list them all here.
When I finished the eighth grade, that
meant high school. I attended Niskayuna High School from ninth to twelve grade. I played the
clarinet in the Symphonic Band and was on the school paper, The Warrior.
My high school years are four years of interesting experiences. I wouldn't trade that time
for anything.
In my junior year, I started looking for colleges
I wanted to apply to. I came up with nine. It may seem like a lot, but I felt comfortable
applying to all of them. I decided I like the Boston area, so that's where I focused my
search. I applied to Boston College, Bentley College, Babson College, Brandeis University, Stonehill College, UMass@Amherst, Ithaca College, Union College and Notre Dame College (in
NH). Without boring you with the details of my final choice. I decided Bentley College was
a perfect fit for me. After visiting the campus and meeting some of the people who went
there it was exactly what I wanted. The academics had a good reputation that was growing
by the minute and they had a newspaper I could work on.
So, I graduated from Niskayuna High School
in June of 1997 and came to Bentley in September 1997. I absolutely loved it. I've met
many great professors and taken some good classes. I majored in Business Communication,
with a focus on journalism and public relations.
During my freshman, sophomore and junior years I
was on the student newspaper The Vanguard. The first two years were terrific because I was
able to do what I loved and meet a great variety of people. In my junior year and beginning of sophomore year, the majority of the people
on the newspaper brought the quality of the paper down. Two other editors and I were
disgusted and had a higher set of values. So, in October of 2000, we founded a new
student newspaper, Bentley Notes.
It was one of the best things I've done during my college career. Our paper
was a success and the quality and standards are set high. I believe future
generations of the paper changed it to a magazine and it later became extinct. But I
wouldn't change the experience on Bentley Notes for the world.
I've always been encouraged to go to grad school, but at least
for now I'm not ready for that.
So, do we have anything in common, like the same
school? Yes or no, email me!
